Dental Implant · Brookline, MA

A plan for the teeth you’re missing.

Missing teeth can change how you eat, speak and feel about your smile. Our Brookline team brings prosthodontic and periodontal expertise together to help you understand your replacement options.

Treatments

  • Single Dental Implant
  • Multiple Dental Implants
  • Full Arch — All-on-X

From a single tooth to a full arch

An implant supports a replacement tooth or restoration. A single implant crown replaces an individual tooth; implant-supported bridges can replace several teeth. Full-arch treatment uses multiple implants to support a larger restoration. The right approach depends on your oral health, the teeth involved and your goals.

Planning the restoration and its foundation

Dr. David S. Kim’s prosthodontic focus includes restoring and replacing teeth. Dr. Soo-Woo Kim’s periodontal focus includes dental implants and supporting bone and gum tissues. Planning considers both the foundation for treatment and the shape, function and appearance of the final teeth.

What happens before treatment?

An examination and appropriate imaging help assess the area. We will discuss whether implants are suitable, whether additional treatment is needed, and alternatives such as a conventional bridge or removable denture. Your medical history and medications are part of that discussion.

Timing, maintenance and cost

Implant treatment can involve several stages, including placement, healing and restoration. The schedule varies with the treatment plan; a same-day final result is not appropriate for everyone. Ask about the complete proposed cost, including any preparatory treatment and the final restoration. Regular professional care and cleaning at home remain essential.

Questions you may have

Is an implant better than a bridge for my missing tooth?

Both can be options. An implant is anchored in the jaw; a conventional bridge is supported by neighboring teeth. The condition of those teeth, the available bone, your health, and your preferences help guide the choice. Ask to compare the complete treatment plans, including maintenance and cost.

Will I have a gap while the implant heals?

A temporary tooth, bridge, or denture may be possible while treatment is underway. The choice depends on the location and healing needs. Ask about your temporary replacement before treatment begins, especially if the missing tooth shows when you smile.

How long does the whole process take?

Implant treatment often involves placement, healing, and the final restoration. Healing may take several months or longer, and preparatory procedures can extend the schedule. Your dentist can explain the expected stages after examining the area.

Does getting an implant hurt?

Anesthesia is used for implant placement, and soreness or swelling can occur afterward. Discuss how the area will be numbed, your comfort concerns, and the recovery instructions before treatment. Recovery varies with the extent of surgery.

Can I get implants if I have been missing teeth for years?

Possibly. An examination and appropriate imaging are needed to assess the remaining bone, gums, and space for replacement teeth. Your overall health and medications also matter. Ask whether additional preparation is needed and what alternatives are available.

Does All-on-X mean I get my final teeth in one day?

In most of our All-on-X cases, temporary teeth supported by the implants are placed on the same day as surgery. These are worn during healing; your final teeth are made and fitted afterward. Same-day placement depends on implant stability and your individual treatment plan. We’ll explain the expected timeline and any eating restrictions before treatment.

What should be included in an implant cost estimate?

Ask whether the estimate includes imaging, any extractions or grafting, implant placement, the connector called an abutment, temporary teeth, and the final crown or bridge. Also discuss follow-up care and what your insurance may contribute.
